DIFFICULTY:

TIPS:keep your helmet always on and enjoy

This tour will satisfy all cross country lovers: for the beauty of the places, for the landscape and for the absence of technical difficulties. From Riva del Garda we start uphill aiming for Tenno Castle: a manor with imposing walls clung on a picturesque rocky headland. It really looks like a giant eagle’s nest defending the small medieval hamlet of Frapporta with its small church.
Behind it the village of Tenno, with its evocative stone walled houses leaning on each other. We now penetrate the narrow roads of the village, leaving them behind in direction of Lake Tenno, an emerald set in the green of the woods. We then climb towards Canale, the artists’ village where time seems to have stopped a few centuries in the past, and keep on uphill in the woods until we reach the St. Peter mountain hut: it has its own little church, but we are not here to attend Mass… the ritual that awaits us is lunch, skilfully prepared by the hut’s manager! The view from here is like that from an airplane’s window in flight: the plain from the Castle of Arco to Riva del Garda, with Mount Stivo and Mount Altissimo cut in two by the Loppio Valley; and Mount Brione with its unique supple shape suggesting a beached whale covered in seaweed. This really is a unique view! Our way back will partly be on the same trail we took uphill. It will pass through the hamlet of Calvola, down through olive trees and vineyards to the village of Varignano. In our opinion this tour is simply unforgettable!
