The ascent to the Pernici mountain hut is one of the most exciting available. The hut sits besides the Bocca di Trat Saddle at about 1600 metres, on the Ledro Valley-Lake Garda divide.
We immediately start the ascent and profit of the unparalleled views of Lake Garda from the Ponale trail, the road carved out from rocks in 1800 and, up to 20 years ago, the only road entering Ledro Valley.
We now reach Lake Ledro’s shores and coast them; immediately after that we attack the ascent to our goal from the back. We leave the hamlet of Lenzumo behind us and, through a winding and not too steep slope, reach the pastures of Malga Lenzumo.
A few more bends and we are over the hump, shifting our view easterly. After an enjoyable and well deserved stop at the Pernici mountain hut, pampered by its manager and his great local dishes, we start our way back.
A steep forest rangers’ road is the fast descent to Malga Grassi. From here on it is a smoother downhill ride to the 70 metres of Riva del Garda. This tour is packed with emotions and for real XC bikers only!
